Bell Appeal 2016
The scaffolding has come down on Blockley Church tower. Its roof is watertight, and the next phase of making the building fit for the future is about to begin.
The bells have rung from the tower for hundreds of years at national and religious celebrations, and for personal milestones. Every day, every hour, our bells mark the passing of time.At present, eight bells hang from a rusting Victorian iron frame.
120 years of wind and weather have taken their toll. We urgently need to replace it, and this presents an opportunity as well as a challenge.
Blockley has one of the Cotswold's best peal of bells; this is our chance to improve them further. This significant project will cost about £120,000, and we plan to have the work completed in 2017. We have already secured nearly half the money for a new bell frame, but we would like to add two more bells, taking our peal to ten, making it easier for children and beginners to join our team of ringers.
Would you consider being a part of Blockley history by making a gift towards our Bell Appeal?
Gifts of any size are very welcome. The names of each and every donor will be added to a special Book of Bells, which will include the history of the village bells, from the earliest 17th century bell, to the most modern to be cast early next year. Every donor will receive a copy of the Book of Bells.
Each new bell will cost £12,000. Your name, or that of someone you want to remember can be cast into the bell. £4,000 will pay for replacing the headstock of an existing bell, and a name can be cast into these as well. Already money for one bell and one headstock has been promised.
These bells will ring out over the valley for hundreds of years to come, as they have done for centuries past. You have an opportunity to be part of the history of our village.
Donations can either be made online or by contacting Dave Hill, the PCC Treasurer on 01386 701514 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org. Gift Aid adds an extra 25% to your donation, and if you pay higher tax you get a tax rebate.
If you would further information, or would like to discuss your donation or the sponsoring a bell or headstock, please contact Revd Canon Dana Delap or one of the Church Wardens.
